Description / Education

“To restore in man the image of his Maker, to bring him back to the perfection in which he was created, to promote the development of body, mind, and soul, that the divine purpose in his creation might be realized—this was to be the work of redemption. This is the object of education, the great object of life.” —Ellen G. White, Education, p. 15.

The Latin origin of the word education means “to nourish.” Just as we need daily physical food, we need to be regularly nourished spiritually. Christian education—at home, school, and church—provides spiritual nourishment for the mind, and teachers can present challenging thoughts that awaken deeper spiritual commitment among their students.

In Gordon Bietz’s Education, you’ll examine the power and the interconnected relationship between Christian education and the family, the Law, personal world view, worship, the local church, and much more.

“In the highest sense the work of education and the work of redemption are one, for in education, as in redemption, ‘other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ.’ 1 Corinthians 3:11.” —Ellen G. White, Education, 30.

Quality
Excellent companion to the Sabbath School quarterly on education, but also very good on its own.
Review by
Chapter One quickly draws the reader in with the author's personal story of his grandparents literally moving the family home by means of two steam-propelled engines, so that the family's nine children could live one mile from the Seventh-day Adventist church and attend school there. Each chapter ends with a story about "Fenton Forest," suitable as a children's story to summarize the chapter. I highly recommend this book for its balance, substance and readable style.
