This is the true story of Abram La Rue, a missionary to the island of Hong Kong. For fourteen years, he and a friend distributed magazines, tracts, and books and spoke the good news of salvation wherever they went.

Description / Dark Night, Brilliant Star

The story you are about to read is true. And the book you hold in your hands is a winner—in more ways than one.

Dark Night, Brilliant Star won first prize in the Christian biography division of the 1980 SEARCH manuscript contest sponsored by Pacific Press® Publishing Association.

The contest judges picked this book as a winner. We feel quite confident that when you read it, you will too.

Abram La Rue never received a call to foreign mission service from the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, but he felt an urgency to proclaim the message. An urgency that he could not quell. But because of his age, the brethren felt they could not send him overseas.

La Rue decided to go on his own. For fourteen years, he and another colporteur worked on the island of Hong Kong distributing magazines, tracts, and books, and speaking words of encouragement to all. His one aim was to spread the good news of salvation wherever he went.

This is the story of his life, beginning with the falling of the stars, which he witnessed as a boy of eleven. It is the story of a fortune gained and lost; but more than that, it is the story of the making of a crown of stars that will be presented by the King of kings to a man small in stature, but full of tireless energy and having a rare gift for communication with others—that man, Abram La Rue.
