This is the life story of Kata Rangoso, who soldiered for Christ among his own bow-and-arrow-toting people, rescued scores of downed airmen during World War II, and traveled the world as representative of the thousands of Christian people in the South Pacific who, like Rangoso, replaced the devil strings of superstition with the good news of Christ.

Description / No Devil Strings

The story of Kata Rangoso is set in the fabled Solomon Islands, in and around beautiful Marovo Lagoon, an extensive reef-enclosed waterway that skirts the large islands of New Georgia and Vangunu. It begins in the year 1902, a time when most of the inhabitants of the Solomon Islands were little changed from the fierce warriors who confronted the Spanish conquistadores so many centuries before.

It is the story of savage headhunters and dedicated missionary pioneers—and of the changes that came during the lifetime of one man. It is one part of the continuing saga of Christian missions among the emerging peoples of the South Pacific.
